i know i have already brought this topic up.....but i wondered if anybody knew of any good cd's by well known artists without drums on or with subtle percussion.
for example i just found jimmy haslip's solo album an its just percussion and practically no drums....
i think i remember someone saying christian mcbride's solo efforts had very little drums on......they said "makes a great play along thing for drummers"........is that true?

Check out joni Mitchells Blue and Ladies of the Canyon, I'm pretty sure there are no drums on that. Dido's latest album has quite a few tracks with just light perc too.
Dave Hassell's graded course for drum kit comes with a cd with no drums on it and the parts are excellent, thet are written for the student in mind but more importantly for us, are as you'd want/excpect to be presented on a gig. If I think of any more I'll let you know!!
hejira by Joni Mitchell has minimal drums and it's a great album. The music is excellent.
And I think Steve Houghton has a couple of cd/books out with no drums.
Bob Gatzen has a cd called Prior Art which can be bought minus drums. Great disc.

When I was at NAMM 2003, Vic Firth was passing out CD's (Artist Series VFAS1018) with 7 songs from different drummers. 7 with the drums and 7 without drums.
Steve Smith, Tommy Igoe (my fav tune), Gregg Bissonette, Peter Erskine, Zorro, Chad Wakerman, & rod Morgenstein. It is a great CD to play to. All the different styles really make you expand your playing.
I'm not sure where you can find it, but look around.
Also, for bebop, look around for John Riley's The Art of Bop Drumming. Very good book/cd that helps you understand and play bebop figures and acquire the feel of swing.
Dave Weckl's In Session "Rhythm of the Soul" play-along book/CD is great. Fun to play! Different styles as well.
For the mechanic-minded drummer, try Dennis Chambers & Tony Royster "Common Grounds". I'm not a big fan of the tunes, but there are some nice things going on there.
You can probably find a lot of these on eBay.com

Also, buy most any Eddie Palmieri
release. Latin is the unexplored

thanks for the suggestions guys...
but i have nearly all the ones mentioned. unfortunately they all sound like play along packages and not like proper performance stuff if you get my meaning.
the best one is the "in session" package by weckl but the music isnt very exciting.
all the rest have drums that you can still hear.....and the omar hakim one i bought last week the intro of the songs has his drums and then they begin to fade out 3 bars into the tune.....wot use is that!!??
